Quadratic Equations 4

Quadratic Equation

* The roots of a quadratic equation of the form ax² + bx + c = 0 can be calculated
using the formula x = \frac{- b \pm \sqrt{ b^{2} - 4ac} }{2a}
* The sum of roots of a quadratic equation is: α + β =  \frac{- b}{a}

The product of roots of a quadratic equation is: α.β = \frac{c}{a}

* In a quadratic equation, b² – 4ac is called the discriminant, which is denoted by D or ∆.

The nature of roots in a quadratic equation can be summed up as follows:
* If D > 0, then the roots are real and distinct.
* If D < 0, then the roots are imaginary or complex.
* If D = 0, then roots are real and equal.
