Surface Areas and Volumes 13

Cube and Cuboid

* A solid figure bonded by six rectangular plane faces is called a cuboid.
* It is also known as rectangular prism
* A cuboid in which length, breadth and height are equal is called a cube.
Surface Area or Total Surface Area of a cuboid = 2( ɭb + bh + ɭh )
Surface Area or Total Surface Area of a cube = 6a²
Lateral Surface Area or Area of four walls of a cuboid = 2( ɭ + b )h
Lateral surface area of a cube = 4a²
Volume of cboid = ɭbh
Volume of a cube = a³

Cylinder

* The formula for calculating the curved surface area of a right circular cylinder is
2πr
* The formula for calculating the total surface area of a right circular cylinder is
2πr (h + r)
* The formula for calculating the volume of a right circular cylinder is πr²h

Cone

* A right circular cone has a circular base and line joining the vertex to the centre of its base at a right angle.
* The formula for the curved surface area of a cone is πrl
* The formula for total surface area of a cone is πr ( ɭ + r)
* The formula for the volume of a cone is  \frac{1}{3}  πr²h

Sphere and Hemisphere
Sphere

  • A sphere is a three dimensional figure in space with constant distance from a fixed point.
  •  Diameter = 2 × Radius
  •  Surface area of a sphere (A) = 4πr²
  •  Volume of a sphere (V) = \frac{4}{3} πr³
  •  Hemisphere
  • A hemisphere is half of the sphere
  • Total surface area of a hemisphere (TSA) = 3πr²
  •  Volume of a hemisphere = \frac{2}{3} πr³
